Butterflies and Babies.

This is my most recent cake i have just finished, a pink butterfly cake for a little girls 6th birthday.

Also to accompany the cake were 20 cupcakes with light pink, dark pink and lilac icing butterflies on top.

Yesterday i also made some baby cupcakes for someone who is expecting a little boy.....these little cuties are guaranteed to get a smile. 3 cupcakes were decorated to look like little baby boy faces and 3 were decorated with a piped swirl of buttercream and small baby feet.

Below the baby themed cupcakes are shown in one of my new cupcake boxes. Although these boxes are not very cost effective (in my opinion) i love them all the same.

Baking overdrive.

Don't you just love that feeling when you go into baking overdrive.....i do.
Well at the weekend it was my husbands birthday and as he is a Guinness lover, what better cake to make him than a scrummy totally yummy Guinness chocolate cake. This cake by the way has to be the most moist and delicious cake i have ever tasted in my life........no honest....really it was!

and you know that you can't have chocolate Guinness cake without Guinness chocolate cupcakes to accompany it. These were also extremely moist and as with the cake even the buttercream had some Guinness in it.

As it was bank holiday weekend, the nice weather brought about a family get together and of course a BBQ. I was on dessert duty so i decided to make a selection......first i made a summer berry cheesecake, some home made jam tarts for the kids, about 30+ cupcakes (some were just plain and some had a lemon topping) and lastly i made some Belgium chocolate tarts. These were not just any Belgium chocolate tarts but were topped with chocolate curls and i also made some white chocolate cherubs to go on top of the chocolate tarts, which finished them off perfectly.

Formula 1 themed 40th Birthday cake.

This cake was definitely a testing one to do but i had fun doing it all the same. I made this for someone who was celebrating their 40th Birthday and who also likes to follow formula 1 racing. The car was the hardest to make as it is all edible and made out of sugarpaste but after a few failed attempts i finally got it!!!

Now for some much needed stress relief i think. Today i am making a chocolate Guinness cake for my husband as it was his birthday yesterday and also my favorite item of all time..........cupcakes. You just can't beat them.
NO! really you can't.

Gingerbread muffins.

Gingerbread muffins rule!

I have been tweaking a recipe i use to make lovely Gingerbread muffins. I have slightly altered the ingredients and added some stem ginger in syrup (chopped into small pieces). I am very happy now with the recipe and i will definitely stick with this one. To say i am extremely happy with how the muffin turned out would be an understatement....i am delighted. The muffin is so moist and delicious. The stem ginger pieces give it a slight kick but it is not overpowering in any way and the sweetness of the muffin compliments this perfectly.

A few more........

High School Musical themed cake for a girls 8th Birthday.

Below is the cake i made for my sons birthday. A New York baseball cap and 2 huge stacks of cash....what more would a 14 year old want? Apart from the cash been real that is.

I made this cake for one of my other sons 8th birthday. He loves fish and chose this design from a book.

Lastly i made this cake for a girls 13th birthday, she loves 'star in the hood' range and wanted her cake to look like a hoody top. She loved it.

Need to catch up.

Wow!!! I didn't realise that it had been so long since i last updated my blog.....the months have just seemed to roll on by. So here are the cakes/cupcakes and whatever else has been keeping me occupied for the last few months, bringing me up to date with 2010.

Below is a cake i made for Christmas. It was a rich fruit cake, covered with marzipan, fondant and royal icing. There was also a surprise with this cake as the post box was a chocolate mini roll and the snowman was shaped around lindor chocolates.

These are some Christmas themed cupcakes that i made for my children to give out to their friends at school. I think i made around 80 of these and they were very time consuming but lots of fun to make. They were a huge hit with everyone.

I made the Cupcakes below for my Mums birthday, she loved them.

This cake was made for a little girl who loves horses on her 6th birthday.

I think out of all the cakes i have made this was my overall favourite. This cake was made to be auctioned off at a Children in Need fundraising event. The cupcakes were also sold at the same event and all of the proceeds went to children in Need.

Cookie Monster and Elmo cupcakes....what more can i say?

Triple Chocolate Profiterole tower

I have always liked the look of profiterole towers and i love eating profiteroles but i had never actually made any myself. So i found myself with some spare time on my hands and no cakes to make, so i thought i would give them a bash and here is how it turned out. I don't think it is too bad for a 1st attempt. These profiteroles were filled with cream, stacked using milk chocolate, drizzled with dark chocolate and finished off with white chocolate roses and rose leaves.

Bonfire Night.

This is the cake and cupcakes i made for Bonfire Night.

My latest creations

I had seen a few of these babies on the internet and just had to have a go at making one myself. It is made out of sugarpaste, making it totally edible (not that i could ever bring myself to eat one). Here the baby is pictured on my hand so you can see the size of it. The baby measures around 2" long.

This cake was so much fun to do. It is a welcome home B-boy themed cake for someone who had been working away for 6 months and his girlfriend wanted something special for him when he arrived home.

This was a farm themed cake for my father-in-law who loves to play farm town.

The following pictures are close ups of the cupcakes. These took a long long time to make but were definitely worth the effort.
