Triple Chocolate Profiterole tower

I have always liked the look of profiterole towers and i love eating profiteroles but i had never actually made any myself. So i found myself with some spare time on my hands and no cakes to make, so i thought i would give them a bash and here is how it turned out. I don't think it is too bad for a 1st attempt. These profiteroles were filled with cream, stacked using milk chocolate, drizzled with dark chocolate and finished off with white chocolate roses and rose leaves.

Bonfire Night.

This is the cake and cupcakes i made for Bonfire Night.

My latest creations

I had seen a few of these babies on the internet and just had to have a go at making one myself. It is made out of sugarpaste, making it totally edible (not that i could ever bring myself to eat one). Here the baby is pictured on my hand so you can see the size of it. The baby measures around 2" long.

This cake was so much fun to do. It is a welcome home B-boy themed cake for someone who had been working away for 6 months and his girlfriend wanted something special for him when he arrived home.

This was a farm themed cake for my father-in-law who loves to play farm town.

The following pictures are close ups of the cupcakes. These took a long long time to make but were definitely worth the effort.

Lego Indiana Jones cake.

Last week was my sons 6th birthday and let me tell you he is Indiana Jones mad! I decided for his cake i would go with a lego Indiana Jones theme, set in a gold mine with snakes and a bad guy. Indiana makes his escape on a runaway cart. This cake was good fun to do and my son loved it. All decorations and figures are made from fondant.

My sons 13th birthday cake.

This is a guitar hero cake i made for my sons 13th birthday. He loves the guitar hero game so it seemed only right to make him a cake that looks like a guitar hero controller. It was quite a large cake, around 18" in length.Needless to say "He loved it"

I also had a friend of mine ask me to make a cake for her daughters birthday ( she wanted the playboy bunny design) so this is what i came up with.

and since i love making cupcakes so much, i made some to match.

Ice-cream cone cupcakes.

Well as the saying goes "you learn something new every day" and i certainly did. Yesterday whilst i was browsing one of my favourite cake decorating sites i discovered some pictures of ice-cream cone cupcakes. They looked really cute and i was very interested in giving them a go. The part that had me baffled was how these cupcakes were baked. You put the cupcake mixture inside of the ice-cream cones (the flat bottomed cup style ones) and place them into the oven, baking the cupcake inside of the cone. Needless to say i was intrigued and was dying to give these a go (you know how i like a new challenge). I was wondering if the cone would go soggy once the cupcake mixture was placed inside or if the cones would burn in the oven, i just didn't see how it would work. Anyway today i mixed up my cupcake mixture, placed it into the ice-cream cones, placed the cones onto a tray and into the oven they went. I wasn't sure what temperature to bake them on, so i guessed around gas mark 3 and they were fine. When they were ready i took them out of the oven and was surprised that they had risen beautifully and the cones were still intact with no sign of burning or discolouration. I then placed them on a cooling rack and once they were cool i piped them with butter cream and decorated them. I was very happy with the results and i can't wait to make these again.

James Bond Cake.

I made this James Bond cake for my sons 7th birthday. It was kind of sprung on me as he wanted a different cake and then a few days before his birthday he decided he wanted a James Bond cake. After the panic had subsided i decided i needed to keep the design simple, child friendly and fun, this is what i came up with. Everything is edible, even the car. The image was printed on my edible ink printer and i then made it into an icing plaque. I put 2 eyes in the tunnel peeking out so my son could use his imagination and choose any James Bond villain that he wanted it to be. I made the James Bond figure out of a mix of fondant and gumpaste. To accompany the cake i made some cupcakes and once again used my edible ink printer to make some icing images to tie the cupcakes in with the James Bond theme. My son was thrilled.
